The ABDA in the Western Balkan countries is strongly supported by the European Commission (EC) and the SWG recently started the implementation of the EU funded project:” Preparations for implementation of the Area Based Development Approach (ABDA) in the Western Balkan countries”.
The members of the Stakeholders Groups (SHG) from the selected cross-border regions (representing local authorities, Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and business sector) which were created for local participation in the ABDA process will have opportunity to meet for the first time after the activities for preparation of the Strategic Framework and Action Plans for cross-border cooperation which took place last year. The 1st meetings of the Stakeholders Groups will take part immediately after the ceremonies for the formal signing of the MoU between the Mayors from the participating Municipalities.
These Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between participating municipalities and cities from the cross-border regions have been prepared with an aim to promote the mutual understanding and cooperation among the stakeholders as well as the regional ownership of the actions to be implemented in function to sustainable economic growth of the concerned cross-border regions and they express the willingness and readiness for participation in the process of mutual cooperation and joint actions for development of the cross-border regions.
The schedule for the 1st Stakeholders Groups’ meetings and the meetings of the Mayors is the following:
- 27th February 2013 in Prizren, Kosovo* – “Sharra” CB region
- 1st March 2013 in Korcha, Albania – “Prespa” CB region
- 5th March 5th 2013 in Brcko, Bosnia and Herzegovina – “Drina-Sava” CB region
- 7th March 2013 in Zlatibor, Serbia – “Drina-Tara” CB region
Additionally, during the forthcoming period , the SWG will facilitate the process of increasing the capacities of the SHGs, as well as their consolidation, and support the streamline of their field of interest via various courses and workshops. The role of the SHG, at this stage, will be to review and adapt the strategic framework to emerging needs and to approve programming documents and project pipeline developed on the basis of the Strategic Framework. All members of the SHG will have the opportunity to take part in various trainings as well as workshops (WS) organized by SWG. They are intended to help develop participatory approach as well as facilitation, animation and consolidation of the stakeholder structures.
