The Second working meeting between the representatives of the National Associations of Markets, green and wholesale markets from the Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia etc.) will be organized by the Association of Markets Serbia (PUPS) and The Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group of the South-Eastern Europe (SWG) through the SWG GTZ ORF project: ”Improving the competitiveness of companies and organizations from South-eastern Europe in the agricultural and food sector through the implementation of food quality standards and increased regional networking“.

The common goal is to continue with the regional networking between the green and wholesale markets from the Western Balkan countries and to maintain the established platform for regular exchange of information, experiences and know-how related to relevant national and EU legislation, organizational structures of the markets, food safety systems and standards relevant for the markets, as well as information about the market (prices, demands and offers of agricultural and food products).

The specific aims set based on the common interests of the participants expressed during the first meeting were as follows:

  • To discuss the initiative for formalization of regional co-operation between the green and wholesale markets from the Western Balkan countries and establishment of Balkan Association of green and wholesale markets in SEE within the World Union of Wholesale Markets;
  • To discuss about the needs for implementation of food safety standards in the green and wholesale markets;
  • Introduction of Good practices related to marketing of agriculture and food products with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) and Traditional Specialties Guaranteed (TSG) on green and wholesale markets.
