The Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in South-Eastern Europe, within the SWG project: “Strengthening regional capacities for rural development through integrated forest and water resources management in Southeast Europe (LEIWW)”, will support the organization of the event “Promotion of rural tourism potentials of Visegrad municipality through support in organization of Jahorina Ultra Trail”, which will be organized in the Municipality of Visegrad and Jahorina Mountain (Bosnia and Herzegovina), by the Mountaineering Association “Javorina”, Municipality of Pale, East Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina from 29th to 31st of July.
Jahorina Ultra Trail has been established as a sport manifestation aiming to promote natural, cultural and historical heritage of the region, promote multiculturalism, exchange of experiences and networking of the people from the Balkan region and wider. It reveals landscapes of exceptional beauty and takes the hikers and other outdoor fans on a journey through a breath-taking scenery. The trail, stretching between the Municipality of Visegrad and Jahorina Mountain, has about as much diverse beauty as ones could desire: trail involves moving along the ancient bridge over the Drina River, one of most important UNESCO heritage site in Bosnia and Herzegovina, continues on dirt roads through the villages of eastern Bosnia, climbing up the trails nestled in natural hideaways deep in the coniferous woods, descending into the upland plains.
The event itself is international, with participants coming from many countries from the region: Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, and Croatia. At the moment we have registered participants from 15 countries. Three races are verified by the International Trail Running Association and awarded qualifying points.
The event is facilitated by the European Union funded project “Fostering regional cooperation and balanced territorial development of Western Balkan countries in the process towards EU integration” implemented by the SWG.
