In September 2012, the SWG EC Project ”Preparation of a Proposal for Area-Based Development Project in the Western Balkans” was completed and output was delivered to the EC Directorate General for Enlargement (DG ENLARG) in a form of a project fiche together with technical annexes (in-depth analyses and development action plans for “Drina-Sava”, “Prespa Lake” and “Sharra Mountain” cross-border regions) related to the implementation of the Area Based Development in the selected cross-border regions.
The SWG Head Office/ Secretariat will be responsible for implementation of the follow up project: “Preparation for implementation of the Area Based Development (ABD) Approach in the Western Balkans”, which will start in January 2013.
The overall objective of this project is to further work on building capacities and structures within the SWG and selected regions (“Drina-Sava”, “Prespa Lake” and “Sharra Mountain” cross-border regions) in order to be able to implement the forthcoming programmes related to territorial and regional cooperation.
Specific project objectives:
– Objective 1: Contribute to sustainable economic growth of a particular region by facilitating the preparatory activities for implementation of identified economic development actions.
– Objective 2: Strengthen cooperation of public administrations and other public bodies, private sector and NGOs in the field of local development and regional cooperation by building-up local and regional cross-border capacities.
What is ABDA (Area Based Development Approach)?
|As an innovative approach, it targets defined geographical areas in the cross-border regions in the Western Balkans characterized by their specific complex development problems. Its bottom-up, inclusive and flexible methodological approach ensures integration and coherence.|
