Technical discussion: “Implementation of EU Water Framework Directive across the South Eastern European Countries”, 14-17 March, 2011, Herceg Novi, Montenegro

In cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Montenegro within the SWG GTZ SEF Project: “Strengthening of the regional cooperation and networking in the forestry and water management sector and sustainable development in the river basins of the South-Eastern European countries”, the SWG will organize a technical discussion on EU Water Framework Directive across the SEE region.

The aim of the Technical discussion is to address the needs and concerns in the context of the implementation of the Directive 2000/60/EC establishing a framework for Community action in the field of water policy (the Water Framework Directive). Practical implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) is a complex process containing many institutional, political and technical elements. This workshop will identify common challenges in the international and national framework for the implementation of the Water Framework Directive in the SEE countries in the process of EU integration.

Specific attention will be given to the regional networking and cooperation, linking different stakeholders and strengthening the exchange of experiences, knowledge and joint development of the participating countries from South Eastern Europe.

Participation of one representative from the departments on Water, Forestry and Environment from each of the Ministries from the SEE region is expected. Experts from the water management sector and relevant NGOs will also participate.
