Western Balkans donor coordination conference, 31st March 2011, Brussels, Belgium

Mr.  Boban Ilic, SWG Secretary General and Ms. Irena Dzimrevska, SWG Head Office/ Secretariat Head of Operations will present the activities of the SWG RRD at the Western Balkans donor coordination conference which will take place in Brussels on 31st of March.

The Conference is organized by the Regional Cooperation Council, with the support of the United States Agency for International Development and European Commission aiming to address a two-fold goal – enhanced donor coordination and strengthened links with regional structures.

Representatives of the main donors and implementing agencies in the Western Balkans together with the representatives of international and regional organizations, task forces and initiatives dedicated to advancing cooperation and promoting development in the region will discuss about possibilities to join efforts in the region: identifying sectors and/or cross-cutting areas for possible shared activities by donors, as well as determining areas of possible overlap in which efficiency of project service delivery could be augmented. RCC believes that sound donor-funded regional programmes should rely on established regional partners which is important, not just for the sake of sustainability of regional donor funded efforts, but also for increased impact and sense of regional ownership.

The ambition of the RCC ambition is to transform this conference into a regular annual event that would help streamline regional cooperation efforts and ensure that IPA and other donor funding reflects fully regional cooperation priorities.
