The Joint Workshop for Development of Measures and Regional Policy Recommendations for application of the models for integrated solid waste management in a cross border context was organized within the project “Solid Waste Management in cross-border rural and coastal areas of South Eastern European region”, implemented on behalf of the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) and NALAS, in support of GIZ Open Regional Fund for South East Europe – Modernization of Municipal Services (ORF MMS). The Joint Workshop took place in Neum, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 05th – 06th April 2016.
Based on the developed models for integrated solid waste management in all three project regions (mountain, river banks and sea coast), measures and policy recommendations that will support application of the models will be developed at the joint workshop with participation of the SWG and NALAS partners and stakeholder groups.
The process of formulating policy recommendations has already been initiated at the Dialogue Platform sessions realized in 2015 and March 2016.
The Joint Workshop of SWG and NALAS gathered representatives from the pilot municipalities/cities and their respective public utilities from 7 pilot countries: Croatia; Bosnia and Herzegovina; Montenegro; Albania; Kosovo*; Serbia and Macedonia. In addition, the stakeholders relevant for development of policy recommendations and proper implementation of the Solid Waste Management models on local and cross border context such as national experts on SWM, representatives of the central government institutions, private operators, civil society organization and Associations of Local Authorities from the pilot countries took active participation.
