The aim of the conference was to promote regional partnership for better municipal services and to present the results achieved in the period from 2013 to 2016. The conference brought together representatives from the municipalities, public utilities, municipal associations, water associations, consumer associations, political decision makers and other relevant partners in order to discuss and review the results achieved in the period 2013-2016 and to reflect together upon regional partnership for improved municipal services. The conference also opened the opportunity for exchange, dialogue and networking.
As part of the Regional Conference for Europe organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations aiming at stronger regional partnership and cooperation, meeting was organized between the FAO Director General - Mr. José Graziano da Silva and the SWG Secretary General – Mr.Boban Ilic.
Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) 2016 have been held during the International Green Week for the eight time. Under the title “How to feed our cities? – Agriculture and rural areas in an era of urbanization”, the Forum discussed topics important to meet this challenge such as the impact urbanization on food security in different regions of the world, the role of agriculture and rural areas in light of this trend and cooperative partnerships with rural and urban development going hand in hand.
The Round Table on agriculture and rural development in the Western Balkan countries and Turkey has been held in Berlin on January 17th, 2016.
The purpose of this visit was to provide members of the SWG Technical Groups on Rural Development and Food Safety with first-hand exposure to the context, background, strategies and implementation practices of Ireland’s agri-food sector, especially in rural development and food safety.
