Planning and Coordination Meeting for the new Project: “Strengthening of the regional cooperation/networking in the forestry and water management sector and sustainable development in the river basins of the South-Eastern Europe countries”,13–14 July, 2010, Mavrovo, Macedonia

Representatives from Ministries of Agriculture and other involving stakeholders from Croatia, Kosovo UNSCR(1244), Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Germany gathered on a two days meeting in order to outline the concept for the new Regional project in the forestry and water management sector of the SEE countries. The project entitled: “Strengthening of the regional cooperation/networking in the forestry and water management sector and sustainable development in the river basins of the South-Eastern Europe countries” is financed by the GTZ Study and Expert Fund (GTZ SEF) and will be implemented by the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in SEE in the period May 2010 – April 2012.

 

Project goals:

  • Strengthening the regional cooperation and networks on all levels (political, technical, civil society etc.) in forestry and water management sector and sustainable development in river basins of the South Eastern European countries and increasing the awareness ofprotection of natural resources and ecosystems. This in order to ensure common and synergetic efforts for better results in implementation and management of current and new environment, agriculture, forestry and water policies;
  • Creating of a potential for encompassing integrated water, forestry and land management, supported by the national governments, institutions and international community in the South Eastern European countries where cross-border river basin areas exist;
  • Promoting of the stakeholders’ participation in the development of a joint action and coordinative efforts for effective implementation and enforcement of environment, agriculture, forestry and water policies, and improving the current level of enforcement of existing environmental, agriculture, forestry and water legislations.

Carefully taking into consideration the current water and forestry concerns in the river basin areas which exist among the countries and institutions in the SEE region (technical topics in the water and forestry sector), the participants from the representing institutions/organizations drafted the Project Operational Plan for the year 2010-2011 according to the project indicators.
