Serbian Falcon Society “Soco”, together with its sports, drama, handicraft and informative section, for the fourth time gathered over 100 children in the school yard of the Primary School “Vuk Karadzic” in Dobrun to compete in some forgotten disciplines – games, and above all to socialize. This year for the first time the games were with international character.

Children from Visegrad, Dobrun, Vardiste; Strbci, Bijela Brda and Budimlije from Rudo (B&H), together with children from Uzice (Serbia) and Pljevlja (Montenegro), competed in the traditional disciplines: long jump from place to place, throwing stones, wrestling on a tree trunk, running in a big bag, ropes and as well as football penalty shootout.

Welcoming the participants of the games Slavko Heleta, President of the Falcon Society, stressed the importance of such games: “The aim of these gatherings is to promote sport, socialization, healthy food, ecology, as well as the tradition of the region,” stated Heleta.

The games were opened by Mirjana Aleksandrovic, a teacher from Dobrun, and manager of “Soko” drama section, which consists of 10 pupils attending the Primary school “Vuk Karadzic” in village Dobrun.

The children from Dobrun organized an art exhibition – “My homeland”, and the youngest competed in an exhibition discipline – carrying eggs in spoons. All participants enjoyed the tasting of local and traditional food prepared by the women from “Soco” Society.

The winners of the games received a Falcon cap made by a tailor and a modeller from Visegrad, one of the few who cherishes this old craft, especially emphasizing the development of the traditional garments. The Falcon cap is entirely handmade, with feathers of rooster’s tail, making them original and unique. All participants received cardboard hats and badges of the games. After the completion of the games a sightseeing tour was organized in Visegrad (Bridge on the Drina, Memorial classroom Ivo Andric and Andrićgrad).

This activity is part of the European Union funded project: “Fostering regional cooperation and balanced territorial development of Western Balkan countries in the process towards EU integration” implemented by the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in South-Eastern Europe.
