Around 20 companies from the SEE Region, working in the agro-food sector, highly appreciated the opportunity to participate at the Conference entitled: “IMPLEMENTATION OF CEFTA – FREE MOVEMENT AND BARRIERS ON TRADE OF AGRICULTURAL GOODS” which was realized on November 9th, 2010 as a side event of the 60th International fair exhibition ITF AGROFOOD 2010 in Skopje, Macedonia.
Most of the participants, including the representatives from the Ministries’ delegations from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia and Kosovo (UNSCR 1244) agreed with the key statements given at the opening of the conference:
- Mr. Dejan Zidan, Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Slovenia – “CEFTA agreement is very important for the EU integration processes, due to lower barriers and increased opportunity for investments that are suitable for enlargement of the flow of goods between the countries; however, many things need to be done in the near future. The agricultural sector could be only successful with proper utilization of the EU funds …”
- Mr. Ljupco Dimovski, Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Macedonia – “Becoming member of CEFTA meant establishment of a flexible regional trade block which liberates the global economy, eliminates the import expenses and barriers on trade, but at the same time this membership prepares the member countries to show their economic maturity for potential EU membership…”
- Mr. Boban Ilik, Secretary General of the SWG – “CEFTA still needs to be discussed and improved since it is a free-trade agreement and the trade itself needs to be supported by discussion and dialogue between the participating countries, especially those from the region of SEE …”
- Mr. Vasko Hadzievski, Chief of Party of AgBiz (USAID) program in Macedonia – “CEFTA membership had official preparation for fully membership into EU. Therefore, these conferences are crucial in order to remind us on the advantages of the free-trade, allowing us to point out on the barriers and to alarm for their elimination …”
