Kick-off Meeting of the Regional Expert Advisory Working Group on “Economic Diversification through Rural Tourism”

Kick-off Meeting of the Regional Expert Advisory Working Group on “Economic Diversification through Rural Tourism” within the activities of the regional project “Economic Diversification of Rural Areas in Southeast Europe (SEDRA)” implemented jointly by SWG and the GIZ took place in Skopje on 24th and 25th January 2019.

Support to Economic Diversification of Rural Areas in Southeast Europe (SEDRA) is a project jointly implemented by SWG and GIZ, aiming at strengthening the regional and national capacities in the SEE countries through facilitating policy dialogues and providing technical expertise on issues related to economic diversification.

One of the topics, which can best serve the economic diversification agenda in the SEE is rural tourism, set up through a Regional Expert Advisory Working Group (REAWG). The REAWG on Economic Diversification through Rural Tourism will focus on enhancing the cooperation between policy makers, researchers, civil society and business sector in the field of rural tourism; facilitating cooperation and coordination between responsible institutions, policies and programmes for tourism development;            identifying gaps on legislative, strategic, policy and institutional level;      provision of policy recommendations and actions to overcome the challenges and ease the EU integration process; developing regional approach in the consolidation of the tourism offer of the SEE countries as a base for global promotion of the region in the group of new emerging destination; and raising awareness about the potentials of rural tourism for the sustainable economic development of rural areas.
