Original creativity, preservation and cultivation of intangible cultural heritage of the cross-border region of “Drina-Tara”, 24 June, 2018, Priboj (SER)

Regional event Original creativity, preservation and cultivation of intangible cultural heritage of the cross-border region of “Drina-Tara”, was organized on 24 June in Priboj, Serbia.

The event consisted of exhibition of local products and handicrafts, competitions in preparation of homemade pies and traditional singing.

At the exhibition participated local producers from Serbia, B&H and Montenegro: Uzice (village Zlakusa, Zbojstica and Mokra Gora), Priboj, Rudo, Gacko and Pljevalja. At the exhibition were presented products such as juices, jams, traditional sweets, baked products, soaps and various cream, beekeeping products, wooden boxes designed in decorative technique, hand painted crafts, clay pots, pillows and beddings, and wood items that are needed in rural households.

In addition to the fair, visitors also attended tasting of 17 pies prepared by women from Priboj villages who competed and demonstrate their skills in making pies. Three of the most tasteful pies were aworded: first place Milanka Kojovic from Priboj, second place Vesna Mojicevic from village Lunici and third place Mevlida Handabah from village Kalafati.

In competitions in traditional singing participated 184 participants from Pljevalja (Montenegro), Rogatica, Foca, Novo Gorazde, Pale, Rudo (B&H), Bajina Basta, Uzice, Lucani, Guca, Pozega, Nova Varos and Priboj (Serbia). Traditional singing was organized in three categories for young participants and for male and female older groups. The best participants received awards. Event was supported by volunteers from the Youth Office in Priboj.

“The general expressions from the event are great and the third day after the event was finished we are receiving good feedbacks. We, as an association, are proud of this event and we think that we justify our ability and maturity for each type of actions that strengthen the position of women in rural areas” stated Malina Stanojevic, president of the Women association “Sacuvajmo selo”.

The event was supported by the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in South-Eastern Europe within the GIZ project: “Rural development through integrated forest and water resources management in Southeast Europe: Rural perspectives: qualification, reintegration and (self) employment”.
