The Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in South-Eastern Europe, within the project “Strengthening regional capacities for rural development through integrated forest and water resources management in Southeast Europe (LEIWW)”, supported the organization of the event “Promotion of rural tourism potentials of Visegrad municipality through support in organization of Jahorina Ultra Trail”, which was organized by the Mountaineering Association “Javorina” from Municipality of Pale, East Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On the weekend July 29-31, Jahorina Ultra-Trail 2016 took place on Jelen Mini (10 Km), Olympic Midi (33 Km), Maxi (85 Km) and Ultra Trail (125 Km) courses between Sarajevo, Han Pijesak, Visegrad and Jahorina Mountain. Three of the courses are verified by the International Trail running association (ITRA) based on which all finishers collected qualification points for Ultra Trail World competitions (UTWT). 276 competitors from 18 countries too part, and best time awards were provided.
Our colleague Aleksandar Damnjanovic was one of the participants and successfully finished the Maxi trail, which started from Han Pijesak.
Apart from the awards, fastest runners received a trophy in shape of a silver fir while the real tree will be planted with their name in the Alley of winners and friends of Jahorina Ultra Trail 2016.
The event was supported and facilitated by the European Union funded project “Fostering regional cooperation and balanced territorial development of Western Balkan countries in the process towards EU integration” implemented by the SWG.
