On June 13th 2014, Kukes Regional Council and INCA Network (Nature Protection Network of Albania) successfully organized the 1st manifestation:”Fishing Day 2014”. The event started at Luma Tower (restaurant and exhibition area) at the bank of Fierza Lake in Kukes town.
Since the aim of the organizers is to develop a traditional event with regional dimension – gathering participants from neighboring countries, the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in South-Eastern Europe supported the organization within the SWG EC Project “Preparation for implementation of the Area Based Development (ABD) Approach in Western Balkans – 2nd Phase”.
Around 200 people attended the “Fishing Day 2014” – 71 officialy invited participants, 16 fishermen who exhibited their nets and presented different native fish species from Fierza Lake, 2 exhibitors of wines and spirits, 3 fish cooking chiefs, representatives of Farmers’ Associations and producers of traditional products from Kukës region, members of “Sharra” stakeholders’ group, fishermen from Kosovo*, SWG project team, media and other guests and visitors).
The program started with Press conference and statements. This was followed by Demonstration of legal fishing techniques, Fish Cooking and fish testing – professional chiefs were very keen to give visitors the recipes for 8 traditional fish dishes offered for testing and accompanied with the local drinks. The event ended with a Ferry trip on Fierza Lake for the official guests of the organizer.
