The Standing Working Group for Regional Rural Development (SWG) in SEE, within the project “Rural development through integrated forest and water resources management in Southeast Europe: Rural perspectives: qualification, reintegration and (self) employment” financed by the German International Cooperation (GIZ), supported the organization of the event “Days of honey”, which was organized by the municipality Surdulica, in the period 19-20 October, 2017 in Surdulica, Serbia.
The regional event “Days of honey” is a traditional manifestation of promotion of beekeeping, in order to improve the capacities of the beekeepers in the cross-border region “Pcinja-Krajiste”. This event was consisted of several capacity building activities, such as panel sessions, discussion about branding of the honey and visit to the apiaries located in Surdulica and on Vlasina Lake. On the event more than 150 beekeepers from Bulgaria, Macedonia and Serbia stressed out the importance of beekeeping, and the promotion and branding of the” Vlasina honey“.
The primary goal of this regional event was to promote the “Vlasina honey” and share experiences with beekeepers from the region on the process of branding, beekeepers’ obligations and production standards which shall be applied upon the completion of registration (labelling, the right to use labels, production process control). This event provided an opportunity for the beekeepers from the region to meet and exchange experiences. Beekeeping products and beekeeping equipment were exhibited during the event.
