Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS)

The 14th Interim Meeting of the Regional Expert Advisory Working Group (REAWG) on Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS) was held on 3 June 2026 in Prishtina as part of the Agricultural Policy Forum (APF) 2026. The meeting reviewed progress in AKIS development, discussed national priorities for 2026, and highlighted the importance of stronger governance and regional cooperation.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to intensify regional cooperation, advance implementation of national AKIS priorities, and continue joint efforts towards building more effective, integrated, and innovation-driven agricultural systems in the South East Europe region.

Regional Meeting Highlights Progress in AKIS System Development and Case Study Implementation. The meeting demonstrated tangible advancements in stakeholder cooperation, the introduction of innovative demonstration and transition models, and growing awareness of interactive knowledge systems.

Participants reviewed progress on the implementation of national AKIS Work Plans 2025 and shared updates on country-specific Case Studies. The session featured detailed discussions on the development of the AKIS Knowledge Repository, including technical improvements, content submissions, and steps needed to ensure full functionality and relevance for regional stakeholders.

The meeting agenda included updates on the advancements made by each participating country regarding AKIS, alongside a Case Study presentation conducted by national experts that focused on actionable steps for establishing an effective AKIS system.

The meeting saw evident progress in formalising AKIS in most Western Balkan countries/territories. This development indicates the project's advancement and potential to impact the REAWG's further work.
