The overarching aim of the HuMUS project is to facilitate the deployment of the EU Soil Mission at regional and local levels in Europe. It will do so by creating collective spaces of constructive dialogue on soil health and soil quality threats, both inside and outside the consortium, which should adopt participatory governance methods and tools for soil quality and health governance in the territories involved.
UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) require sustainable soil use and management and improvement of soil health. The essential role of soils for sustainable food production, biodiversity preservation (healthy ecosystems) and human health based on the paradigm of One Health concept make them crucial to reach these targets. Moreover, climate change actions like mitigation and adaptation along with dealing with water security is deeply anchored in the European Green Deal.
