Organic Agriculture

This regional event will bring together organic producers, associations, businesses, policymakers, importers, traders and development partners to exchange ideas, explore market opportunities and strengthen cooperation across Southeast Europe.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of regional cooperation in advancing organic agriculture, with a strong focus on EU alignment, digital transformation, and strengthening organic value chains. Participants agreed on the need to enhance collaboration, improve data exchange, and support the sustainable growth of the organic sector across the South East Europe region.

The SEE delegation participated in high-level discussions on EU organic regulation in the context of accession and regulatory alignment, certification systems and market trends relevant for strengthening Western Balkan organic value chains. Engagement in panel discussions and bilateral meetings supported efforts to build strategic partnerships and enhance regional integration into European organic markets.

The Regional Expert Advisory Working Group (REAWG) on Organic Agriculture met in Skopje to evaluate the progress made in developing organic policies and markets across the Western Balkans and Moldova. The meeting brought together national experts, representatives from various ministries, and international partners to assess achievements and outline future priorities.

Participants explored key topics such as soil management, plant protection, certification standards, and market opportunities. A field visit to successful organic farms and processing facilities in Albania offered valuable insights into real-life practices and business models.

Discussions addressed several key initiatives, including the preparation of a training module for control bodies, the finalisation of an advisory checklist for organic product documentation, and joint participation at BIOFACH 2027 under the “Prominent Region” initiative. The continuation meeting on 1 July featured technical updates from the European Commission on the TRACES system and the Certificate of Inspection procedures.
