The aim of "Analysis of the agricultural and rural development policies in Western Balkan countries" was to provide up to date analysis of the characteristics of the agriculture policy instruments applied in Western Balkan (WB) countries and highlight the possible effects of agriculture and rural development policies harmonization of the WB countries with the CAP 2014-2020 on food and farming sector in the rural areas.

The primary aim of this project was to strengthen regional capacities for rural development through integrated forest and water resources management in SEE. This project was commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and was jointly implemented by GIZ and the SWG.

The project aimed at monitoring and collection of information on agricultural policy developments in the Western Balkan countries, relevant in understanding the policy framework under which farms operate, as well as indicating the potential implications for their development and growth. This analysis also contributed towards providing evaluation of the effects of policy approximation process with the EU acquis in agriculture and rural development and help to better design and improve IPARD programmes.
