Implementating Close-to-Nature Forest Management in the Western Balkans

The focus of the Third Interim Meeting of the REAWG on Sustainable Forest Management was on the concept of forest management guidelines and policy document with policy analysis and policy recommendation regarding SFM including biodiversity protection in climate change challenges per country/territory.

The focus of the meeting was on building capacity for cooperation in the efforts of implementing a Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) in the Western Balkans: Practical implementation of guidelines in particular for High Mixed beech forests and High mixed pine forests.

Our Working Group for Sustainable Forest Management spent wonderful week in Hessen

The main aim of the exposure visit of the REAWG members from the Western Balkans was to introduce with the close to nature forest management in Germany, focusing on the following useful topics such as: practical presentation on close to nature forest management under the climate change in Germany, demonstration plots, thinning concept, biodiversity conservation aspect, eco-tourism, forest management guidelines and practical implementation in Germany and system Training of Trainers up to level of field engineer.

First Interim Meeting of the REAWG on Sustainable Forest Management

The aim of the meeting was to discuss on how to strengthen the implementation of the EU Green Agenda for the Western Balkans and the capacities for cooperation in the implementation of a sustainable, multifunctional, ecosystem, based of approach and Close to Nature Forest Management with special focus on climate change challenges in the Western Balkan region.

Creating a regional platform for strengthening long-term cooperation and exchange of best praxis in the region could serve as effective tools towards creating vital and resilient forest ecosystems that can stand over climate change risks.
