The First Ministerial Meeting on the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans is being held on October 8th in the scope of the 10th Anniversary Berlin Process Summit in Hamburg Germany.
The Western Balkans Delegation (WB6) is presenting its perspectives on the implementation of the Green Agenda Action Plan, discussing challenges, opportunities, needs, and key priority measures. “Regional cooperation efforts must be intensified to achieve the commitments under the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans and its implementation Action Plan. The goal of the Declaration on food and agriculture (Skopje Declaration) adopted during the 18th Meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture from SEE in Skopje, North Macedonia is to fortify the Western Balkan community and further the EU accession process in the fields of food, agriculture, and forestry” stated SWG Secretary General Mr. Boban Ilic in his official addressing.
SWG Secretary General participated as well at the Humburg Sustainable Conference organized as side event. The Hamburg Sustainability Conference is driven by the vision that reaching the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) requires interdisciplinary and trustful collaboration among the international community. The conference aims to foster new partnerships and collective action of those who are willing to commit to action: global policymakers, private sector leaders, academia experts, and civil society representatives.
The main goal of the First Annual Ministerial Meeting on the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans was to assess the progress achieved in implementing the GAWB Action Plan across its seven components and to offer strategic direction for future efforts.
The Ministerial Meeting on the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, held this year as part of the Berlin Process, serves as a crucial platform for promoting environmental sustainability and climate resilience in the region. Aligned with the Sofia Declaration, the meeting brings together stakeholders to assess progress, address challenges, and plan future actions.
In light of Germany hosting the 2024 Berlin Process, the First Ministerial Meeting on the Green Agenda for the WBs is organized by the Regional Cooperation Council – RCC in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany -BMZ under the Regional Climate Partnership framework endorsed during the 2023 Summit, alongside support from the European Commission.
