Regional Meeting Highlights Progress in AKIS System Development and Case Study Implementation.

The 12th Interim Meeting of the Regional Expert Advisory Working Group on Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS) was held on 21–22 October 2025 in Skopje, North Macedonia, bringing together institutional representatives and national experts from the Western Balkans and Moldova. Participants reviewed progress in establishing AKIS as a system at the national level, assessed the implementation of the 2025 Work Plan and presented the results of ongoing Case Studies aimed at strengthening advisory services, improving knowledge transfer, and supporting climate-smart agriculture.

The meeting demonstrated tangible advancements in stakeholder cooperation, the introduction of innovative demonstration and transition models, and growing awareness of interactive knowledge systems. The meeting focused on the development of the AKIS Knowledge Repository, intended to improve access to relevant materials and foster regional learning. International experts provided recommendations to strengthen coordination mechanisms, accelerate policy uptake, and improve advisory services. Discussions underlined that while progress varies across the region, tangible advancements are visible, particularly in stakeholder engagement and the integration of climate-resilience measures. The meeting agenda also covered challenges related to formalisation, institutional coordination, and policy uptake.

The event concluded with agreement on further actions, emphasizing continued contributions to the Knowledge Repository and the importance of institutional commitment to securing future AKIS development.
