A delegation of the Regional Expert Advisory Working Group (REAWG) on Organic Agriculture in South East Europe attended BIOFACH 2026 in Nuremberg, the world’s leading organic trade fair, held under the theme “Growing Tomorrow: Young Voices, Bold Visions.” The event gathered around 2,200 exhibitors from nearly 90 countries and nearly 32,000 visitors, providing a platform for policy dialogue, market exchange and partnership building. India was featured as Country of the Year.
The SEE delegation participated in high-level discussions on EU organic regulation in the context of accession and regulatory alignment, certification systems and market trends relevant for strengthening Western Balkan organic value chains. Engagement in panel discussions and bilateral meetings supported efforts to build strategic partnerships and enhance regional integration into European organic markets.
Participation confirmed the growing relevance of SEE within European organic value chains, while underlining the need for continued alignment with EU standards, stronger certification capacities and improved export readiness. The fair also provided valuable insights into ongoing developments of the EU Organic Regulation, sustainability priorities and international organic trade, reinforcing the importance of credible certification systems and coordinated policy action for sustainable sector growth.
