The Sixth Interim Meeting of the Regional Expert Advisory Working Group (REAWG) on Agricultural Policy Monitoring was convened within the framework of the Agricultural Policy Dialogue Germany – Southeast Europe (APD SEE) project. The meeting brought together regional experts, national coordinators, and representatives of the Standing Working Group for Regional Rural Development (SWG) in order to review methodological developments and coordinate the next cycle of agricultural policy monitoring activities across the Western Balkan countries and territories.
The meeting served as a strategic platform to review and refine the methodological framework used for monitoring agricultural sector developments and agricultural policy instruments in the region. Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening the analytical coherence and comparability of the monitoring system through updates to the Statistical Database (StatDB), the Agricultural Policy Measures Classification (APMC) database, and the Agricultural Policy Integration (API) tool.
Beyond technical updates, the meeting also addressed the broader policy context within which the monitoring system operates. In particular, discussions focused on improving the alignment of the monitoring framework with the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and its Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Framework (PMEF). This alignment is essential for ensuring that the analytical outputs generated through the APD initiative can effectively support policy dialogue and reform processes related to EU accession and policy approximation in the agricultural sector.
Against this background, the meeting marked the launch of the new monitoring cycle and provided an opportunity to reinforce a shared methodological understanding among participating experts while defining the analytical priorities for the upcoming period.
