First Interim Meeting of Regional Expert Advisory Working Group on the Role of Women in the Western Balkans organized on June 6 in Banja Koviljaca.
Western Balkans share common problems and same challenges for rural development, thus regional approach and common studies should be implemented to identify gaps and recommendation for support to rural development.
Women in rural areas may face numerous social and financial challenges such as fewer employment opportunities, the lack of visibility of women’s work in agriculture, the under-representation of women in the ownership and decision making in agriculture and the potential social exclusion.
One of the outcome of the Study on the role of women in the rural areas in the Western Balkans will be to identify ways and provide policy recommendations on a national level for each of the WB countries/territories as well as on a regional Western Balkan level for women empowerment in the midst of green recovery leading to the sustainable development of Western Balkan societies.
The Study on the role of women in the rural areas in the Western Balkans is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and implemented by the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group in SEE (SWG).
