The focus of the project is driven towards sustainable economic diversification and community led local development, income generation and job creation in line with the principles of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and IPARD II. The main output is to strengthen the regional capacities of relevant stakeholders for supporting EU-compliant economic diversification of rural areas in SEE.
The primary aim of the Project is to contribute to the coordination and implementation of the inception phase of the regional project “Support to economic diversification of rural areas in SEE” (SEDRA). This overall objective is defined by the following 3 outputs:
OUTPUT 1: Strengthening the regional and national capacities in SEE states and the whole region through facilitating theme-specific policy dialogues and providing technical expertise on issues related to the economic diversification as a key strategy for rural development. Evidence-based policy recommendations will be endorsed by national ministries and their implementation will be monitored and supported on demand;
OUTPUT 2: Supporting local stakeholders in cross border areas to establish model-like value chains valorizing local resources, including products from agriculture and wild harvesting, local crafts and culinary traditions, as well as tourism based on the sustainable use of the natural and cultural heritage;
OUTPUT 3: Developing the capacities of individual people, organizations and businesses as well as cooperation systems with regard to Output 2, whereas the development of capacities for setting up structures and processes to acquire EU IPARD II funding, and the capacities of local actors and project promoters to get access to public and private co-financing in general, also contribute to Output 1.
This project is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), to be jointly implemented by GIZ and the SWG.
Expected project duration: September 2018 – January 2019.
