The SWG provides the bases for exchange of experience and mutual assistance among its member institutions in the field of rural development, agriculture, tourism and economic development, environmental protection, promotion and protection of cultural heritage. This is accomplished by rendering direct support, conducting studies, assessments and research in rural development, facilitation of strategic planning and programming and establishment of proper structures in institutions, networking of stakeholders in the region, rising awareness for rural development issues within local communities and other interested parties. The SWG aims to assure a close and permanent cooperation in order to accomplish the common policy of integration with the EU, stimulate and organize initiatives and activities on national, regional and global scale. In the same time, the SWG as a network of institutions applies critical approach towards global issues, such as climate change, food security and etc.
