The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Albania, in close cooperation with the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in South Eastern Europe, organized the Second National Workshop on Integrating Climate Change Adaptation into Agricultural Policy: Stakeholder Engagement and Strategic Input.

The event marked the final workshop in a series of national consultations for 2025 held across the Western Balkans, continuing a regional process aimed at strengthening the integration of climate change adaptation (CCA) into agricultural policies. The workshops were organized within the framework of the project “Regional Climate Partnership – Climate Change Adaptation in Agriculture”, supported by the German Government through GIZ.

Over the past two months, similar workshops were held in Podgorica, Pristina, Skopje, Banja Luka, Sarajevo, and Vrnjačka Banja, gathering more than 150 participants from ministries, public institutions, academia, farmers’ organizations, civil society, and the private sector.

The Tirana workshop provided an opportunity to synthesize key findings and recommendations from the regional process. Participants discussed practical measures to strengthen the legal and institutional framework for adaptation, mobilize sustainable financing, improve coordination between sectors, and promote data-driven and innovative solutions for climate-resilient agriculture.

Discussions also emphasized the importance of aligning agricultural and environmental policies with the EU Green Agenda and the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) principles, as well as increasing the engagement of local communities and farmers in climate action.

The workshop concluded with a joint understanding of the priority actions and next steps to enhance Albania’s and the region’s capacity to adapt agricultural systems to changing climatic conditions.

The activities within the project are continuing in a good pace until the end of 2026.

The activity was organized with the support of GIZ and the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG), on behalf of the German Government, within the Regional Climate Partnership between Germany and the Western Balkans.
