“Bjeshkët e Namuna” Mountain Centre


Network “Albanian Alps Alliance” represents a union of 7 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operating in Shkodra and Kukes county in Albania. The mission of the network is to contribute to sustainable environmental and socio- development economic of the association through public awareness, involvement of local communities in decision-making and promoting the natural, environmental, and traditional values.

Being situated in the northern region of Albania, Shkodra consists of the first gate to the Alpine Alps. Every year, more than 20,000 tourists visit Northern Alps to do activities such as hiking, cycling, mountaineering, boating, etc.

With the grant investment the “Albanian Alps Alliance” Network purchased necessary equipment’s encompassing functionality of mountaineering expeditions and enable tourists to use special tourism packages of hiking, mountaineering, biking, and birdwatching, that will further develop and promote mountain tourism by young people. Although in times of COVID_19 pandemic, young people from the NGO are activated as Tourist Guide, also through SMILE Albania program, and are frequently using the equipment’s for promotion.

Project activities will further contribute to the development and strengthen of the mountain tourism value chain in the cross-border region “Prokletije -Bjeshket e Namuna“.

This investment is supported in 2020 within the Project: “Diversification of economic activities in rural areas of Southeast Europe: value chain investment support and capacity building” implemented by SWG RRD in partnership with GIZ.
