Kick-off Meeting of REAWG on the Climate Change Adaptation in Agriculture, May 15-17, 2023

Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG RRD) is starting the new activity in the implementation of the Action Plan for the Green Agenda in the Western Balkans regarding the Climate Change Adaptation in Agriculture within the framework of the Agricultural Policy Dialogue Germany – Western Balkans.

Kick-off Meeting of the Regional Expert Advisory Working Group (REAWG) on the Climate Change Adaptation in Agriculture gathered more than 40 participants from the region representing the Ministries of agriculture and environment as well as experts from the Western Balkans.

The focus of the work of the REAWG on Climate Change Adaptation in Agriculture (CCAA) for 2023 is to develop the analysis of the current situation on the climate change adaptation in agriculture in WB countries/territories. The work will be organized through several working groups (socio-economic, livestock, crops, water, soil) with the support from the line ministries and within the coordination of the SWG.

According to the Agenda, SWG Secretary General Mr. Boban Ilic introduce the topics of the meeting. He explained the process of formulating the work on the REAWG on Climate Change Adaptation in Agriculture. Mr. Ljupčo Nikolovski, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of North Montenegro address the public as well as Ms. Karin Rau, GIZ Project Manager and Mr. Vjekoslav Tanasković, Dean of Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Food, University of Skopje.

After the introduction Mr. Magnus Hackenberg from Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE), Germany presented an update of the situation on climate change adaptation in the EU and Germany.

Ms. Aleksandra Martinovska Stojčeska from Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Food from Skopje, as a Regional coordinator presented methodology, workplan and deliverables planned for this year. After the plenary section questions and answer session was held in order to answer on all of the doubts and open questions.

During the afternoon session participants have been divided into four groups to discuss the methodology and the outline of the reports:

🟢 Soil and Water

🟢 Plant production

🟢 Livestock production

During the second day presentation of the outcomes from the group discussions, followed by conclusions and planned next steps were held.

The activity is supported within the Project: Promotion of Economic Diversification of Rural Areas in Southeast Europe (SEDRA II) in SEE- Evidence based policy development implemented by SWG in partnership with GIZ North Macedonia and Project: “Agricultural Policy Dialogue Germany – Western Balkans” implemented in partnership with GFA and IAK.

Meeting on REAWG CCAA -Programme
