The focus of the Third Interim Meeting of the REAWG on Sustainable Forest Management was on the concept of forest management guidelines and policy document with policy analysis and policy recommendation regarding SFM including biodiversity protection in climate change challenges per country/territory. This Meeting is continuation of collaboration within the framework of APD Germany – Western Balkans in 2023 with support provided Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Germany.
Opening session have been chaired by Ms. Bogdanka Leveska Gjorshoska, SWG Senior Project Manager who introduce the context of the program of the meeting and presented progress of the activities implemented so far within the REAWG including next steps. National experts presented concept of forest management guidelines and policy document with policy analysis and policy recommendation regarding SFM for each WB country/territory.
Second meeting day started with presentation of the Mr. Diego Florian, regional representative of Forest Stewardship Council who presented his organization which provides stewardship standards that enable responsible sourcing, conservation and restoration of the forests in Europe and worldwide, already recognized and trusted certification system in over 58 countries. In the WB, Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country with NFFS, while in Serbia, public enterprises managing forest have FSC certification for some specific products (popular, oak and honey).
Regional Expert, Mr. Nenad Petrovic presented foreseen priorities and measures for future cooperation in 2024 as seven possible forest policy actions.
