Each village boasts its unique customs, and a small village in western Serbia is renowned for one such age-old tradition. Originating as a wedding horse race the event has evolved over fifty four years into a cherished gathering for horse enthusiasts and participants engaging in traditional village games, rekindling memories of the past.

This year, on May 1st, the picturesque Boreta hill in the Prijepolje municipality, Serbia hosted the Komaran kosija event. Alongside the mountain horse race, participants also took part in competitions involving long jumps, cross-country runs, and shoulder throwing disciplines.

The activity is supported within the Project: Promotion of Economic Diversification in Rural Areas of South-Eastern Europe (SEDRA II) in SEE – Value chain capacity building on agriculture and rural tourism to promote employment opportunities supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and implemented by GIZ in partnership with SWG RRD.
