Never Enough Knowledge

Women Association “Save the village” gather women from rural areas from Municipality of Priboj and focuses on empowering rural women economically achieving equality and reducing the gap in their society. Although the association has no permanent employees, it has over 80 members, with a tendency to increase. Since their establishment they implemented 33 projects supported by various donors.

The project “Never enough knowledge” included a series of lectures in the field of agriculture, animal husbandry and rural tourism. The goal is to improve the production and business of rural women, which will enable their better economic position in the long term.

šŸŸ¢ Training on the topic Livestock farming, 14 August, 2023

Many people from rural areas in southwestern Serbia are engaged in livestock farming, particularly cattle farming. Therefore, the aim of the training was to enhance their knowledge in this field, enabling them to improve their livestock practices and enhance the production of meat, eggs, and dairy products. By enhancing knowledge of proper livestock and poultry farming, learning from examples of good practices, understanding proper nutrition, and ensuring healthy livestock reproduction, participants in the training who are involved in livestock farming will apply the acquired knowledge in practice. This will result in improving their households and businesses. The application of this knowledge will enable them to produce more meat, dairy, and other products. Crucially, these products will be of higher quality. This will allow them to expand their product offerings, leading to improved business and enhancement of their economic situation. Training was attended by 21 participant, 18 of them were women. Most of them are rural women, including one rural women with disability. Four of the participants were under the age of 30. Most of the rural women are unemployed, although they do have livestock, poultry and agricultural land and dealing with production and/or processing agricultural and livestock products.

šŸŸ¢ Training on the topic Basic technological processes in the food industry, 4 October, 2023

Many women from Women association are engaged in agricultural activities which is why the training was very interactive and based on the existing work on rural women- their issues, dilemmas and products they are already making and planning to start making in the future. They cultivate various fruits, vegetables, and plants, and from their produce, they create different products such as jams, teas, pickles, preserves, and more, which they later market and sell. Since the most of the rural women are considered unemployed (they do not have official job even though they do work in the fields and households for over 12 hours every day) agriculture represents the only source of income they have. So by organizing interactive training on the topics of agriculture where they can ask questions and talk about the problems they face and the ways to improve their production and crops, we are enhancing their sales and economic opportunities. The training was followed by practical examples about the products that rural women that have attended make, so the new knowledge can be implemented in their work quickly. The training was attended by 19 participants where’s 16 of them were women, one with disabilities and two under the age of 30.

šŸŸ¢ Training on the topic Rural tourism, 10 November, 2023

Twenty women attended the training. Rural tourism is a highly significant topic for the Women association “Save the village” and Priboj municipality. Municipality of Priboj comprises of 13 villages with beautiful nature, clean air, fertile land, and organic food. However, very few households are involved in rural tourism. We see rural tourism as an excellent opportunity for the development of our municipality and, above all, for the improvement of the status of women in rural areasā€”both economically and socially. Rural tourism is one of the few industries that can bring significant income to households in a very short period. Unfortunately, many young people have left the villages. Most rural households have space that can be rented to tourists. This training provided insights into the entire process of rural tourism, from registering the property for renting to welcoming guests. Many members of the association expressed the desire and readiness to engage in rural tourism, so we are on the right path to achieving our goalā€”developing rural tourism in our region stated Malina Stanojevic, president of the association.
