During Forest exposure visit, SWG REAWG on Sustainable Forest Management from the Western Balkans had a chance to visit Forestry Training Centre and Youth Education Centre in Weilburg, Forestry District Unit Hanau in Wolfgang which deals with reproductive material, eco-tourism and outdoor education including Wildlife Park in Hanau, field presentation on the Forestry in Climate Change in Forestry Unit in Weilmuenster and National Park “Kellerwald/Edersee” with UNESCO World Heritage Beech Forests.
We had the opportunity to see how the colleagues from the State Enterprise Hessen Forst implement planning and policy strategy in the Forest Management Planning using Management Guidelines that are not prepared or not implemented in the most Western Balkan countries stated Nenad Petrovic, SWG Regional Expert. Since that there is a big gap between theory and the practice we need systematic continuous training of staff in the Western Balkans. Speeding up production period is very important in the perspective of Climate Change. We need to connect with vegetation from soil to reaching target diameters.
Ms. Bogdanka Leveska Gjorshoska, SWG Senior Project Manager emphasized that the Action Plan from the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans requires more commitments for implementations of its actions from all regional coordinators and organizations. In this regards the SWG has been given up the mandate to coordinate the implementation of the Action 53 from the Green Agenda for the Western Balkan, under Pilar 5 which refers to the Sustainable Forestry Management.
The week of the SWG Regional Expert Advisory Working Group for Sustainable Forest Management on study tour is over and we had very exciting week with good excursion and good presentations. I would like to thank all participants from the WB countries that follow invitation of HessenForst and we would like to continue the work and giving further expertise, Mr. Max Richer, Division Manager for Education, HessenForst Forstamt Weilburg.
Forest objectives of the State Forest Management in Germany are focused on Timber Production, Climate Protection, Biodiversity, Impact on Recreation and Culture, Environment and Education, Labor, Use of Forest Owner.
Exposure visit in Germany is continuation of collaboration within the framework of APD Germany – Western Balkans in 2023 with support provided by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Germany (BMEL). Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG RRD) in SEE coordinates and facilitate the Regional Expert Advisory Working Groups (REAWG) on Sustainable Forest Management.
