Training of Rural Women for Production of Traditional Wool Handicrafts, 4-8 March, 2009, Dimitrovgrad, Serbia


Ten to fifteen rural women from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Croatia were trained for preparation of wool handicrafts (hats, slippers, souvenirs). The training was conducted by 2 trainers from Macedonia.

In order to extend the idea of development of rural agro tourism the training was conducted in a sheep breeding area of Stara Mt. on the Serbian-Macedonian border in Dimitrovgrad, with already developed rural agro tourism and conservation of rare old breeds of sheep. This was a great opportunity to develop cooperation between rural women from the whole region.

Trainees were selected by GTZ Skopje and SWG Secretariat.

The activity and prepared souvenirs was promoted on the Sheep Breeder’s Day in Galicnik 2009. If there is an interest for future activities in this direction, an additional training could be provided. This training should be provided by already trained Macedonian rural women.

The goal of the training was:

To support training of women from rural regions for preparation of wool handy crafts

To contribute in idea of development of rural tourism

To contribute to the process of employment of rural women
